Security & Privacy

Student Affairs IT has experts helping departments navigate this constantly changing and complex landscape of security and privacy.


The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) governs the security & privacy of student education records. We work closely with the Registrar’s office to ensure student records are secured appropriately and to coordinate FERPA training across campus.

Phishing Emails

Keeping our usernames and passwords private is essential to keeping our information secure. Learn about email phishing scams that try to trick you and be vigilant about ongoing attempts to steal private information. Report phishing attempts you come across to the UCLA Information Security Office.

Software & Services


The easiest way to enroll in classes and access academic, financial, and personal records. We partner with IT Services and Undergraduate IT to consolidate the information students need from across campus into one place. We provide class registration, financial aid, transcripts, secure communication with support professionals across campus, and more.


Our expert Helpdesk staff support over 2,500 devices all over campus in departments, computer labs, kiosks, and many more. Backing all of this technology are 200 servers and a bunch of networking equipment that you probably don't need to think about much due to our awesome infrastructure team.

The first connection between students, faculty, and staff and many of the services, programs and experiences of UCLA are through many of our websites. We help to design and make accessible websites that are accessed over 14 million times per year.

Degree Audits

College counselors and students use our Degree Audit Requirement Systems (DARS) to track progress in meeting the many major and minor degree requirements.

We work with over 25 departments and manage 85 in-house developed applications and 50 applications from external software companies to create and provide systems and services for UCLA students, faculty and staff ranging from the simple to extremely complex cross platform integrations. From registering and paying for classes, keeping track of degree requirements, and finding friends and fun things to do, we enable connections through technology.
